Print Club Turin hosts Libri Finti Clandestini, a cosmopolitan and mocking collective whose purpose is to create real books (sketchbooks, notebooks, travel diaries, object books) using only paper found around, that paper that is normally considered garbage: waste typography, proofing and starter papers, grocery bags, posters, envelopes, bread bags, even wallpaper.
The proposed workshop involves the creation of an accordion book (with single-plate cardboard covers on the sides) on which we will work to create three-dimensional mechanisms through cuts, folds and gluing with classic kirigami and pop-up techniques. Starting from tests and prototypes, participants will learn a technique with which they will create one or more definitive on which, optionally and according to their preferences, they can insert a content: a reasoned sequence of subjects or a series of abstract elements ( geometric figures, colored shapes …) During the workshop the participants will be shown the practical methods and techniques indicating the best way for the realization: everyone will put his or her own choosing shapes, sizes, elements, colors… according to their tastes and needs.
PROGRAM
The workshop will be divided into two parts, between morning and afternoon: Morning: – an introduction with theoretical explanation with the analysis of examples and pop up / kirigami techniques – creation of the accordion base (on which the three-dimensional mechanisms will then be created) starting from a strip of paper – start tests on different sheets to understand how the kirigami cutting / folding mechanisms work (working directly on the available paper base) Afternoon: – further tests on different sheets to understand how the cut / fold / glue pop up mechanisms work (starting from a piece of paper “external” to the one available) – creation of one (or more) definitive accordion book with pop-up mechanisms – (optional) inclusion of content – figures or abstract subjects – within the accordion book using the mechanisms learned previously. + creation of the hardcover covers and gluing them to the accordion book block
